Nationwide Emergency Mobile Alert Test!
November 24, 2017
Message from Otago Civil Defence and Emergency Management:
There will be a nationwide emergency mobile alert test this weekend (Sunday, Nov 26th) between 6PM and 7PM. It will include an unfamiliar sound and a message. The test marks the introduction of a new way of giving people warning of an emergency, such as a tsunami or a fire, where there is an immediate threat to life and property.
You do not need to do anything to receive the alerts - by this I mean you do not need to sign up for the service or download any app or software. If your phones are capable of receiving the alert, and turned on, you will get the message.
There is information about the new system online in several different languages: https://www.civildefence.govt.nz/cdem-sector/public-education/public-education-resources/promoting-emergency-mobile-alert/
